SANDRA C DAVIS

Sandra C. Davis is fine art photographer whose haunting imagery captures remembered moments from the past to cherish in the future. She does this through several bodies of work that explore history through photographing what remains from previous eras.

While on location, she collects imagery by seeking out historic architecture and gardens, turning her lens to the spiritual and symbolic icons. Through the way she captures these sites and by printing the images in various alternative processes, she makes them her own vision while creating an illusory veil of dreaminess.

Her constructed imagery also focuses on memories, history, and symbolism. Always collecting, she pulls from her horde of vintage toys, curios and ephemera to build tableaux. Davis creates narratives that explore the distorted memories of personal histories as well as legends, myths, fairytales, and fictions.

Most of her work is printed in gum bichromate, palladium, and other alternative photographic processes. She teaches alternative photography classes at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Davis also teaches alternative photography workshops throughout the USA.

Her work was featured in WHY PHOTOGRAPHS WORK:
52 Great Images Who Made Them, What Makes Them Special and Why by George Barr, author of Take Your Photography to the Next Level. Her work is also published in The Book of Alternative Processes, Second and Third Edition by Christopher James and Gum Printing and Other Amazing Contact Printing Processes and Gum Printing, A step-by-step Guide, highlighting Artists and their Creative Practices by Christina Z. Anderson. Her award-winning images have been exhibited internationally and are in public, corporate and private collections.
